Job Summary – Chief Accountant (Cameroon)

The Chief Accountant will lead and manage the accounting and financial operations of our client’s business based in Cameroon, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial records and reports. The role is responsible for establishing strong financial controls, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and supporting management with reliable financial information for decision-making.

In addition to technical responsibilities, the Chief Accountant plays a key managerial role, leading, supervising, and developing the accounting team while ensuring efficient day-to-day financial operations in a project-based and operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all accounting and financial operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
  • Supervise, guide, and develop the accounting team, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with internal controls and procedures.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial closing and preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Oversee project accounting, including cost allocation, budget tracking, and monitoring of project profitability.
  • Prepare annual budgets, financial forecasts, and variance analysis, and provide financial insights to management.
  • Manage cash flow planning, banking activities, payments, and collections to ensure adequate liquidity.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, social security, and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) is an advantage.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • At least 3–5 years in a managerial or supervisory role, leading an accounting or finance team.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory; proficiency in French is an advantage.
  • Strong experience in project-based, contracting, engineering, or operational environments is highly preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of accounting standards, financial reporting, and tax regulations.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting or ERP systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools.
