Chief Accountant/Auditor-Nigeria

Job Summary:

The Chief Accountant / Auditor will oversee accounting and financial reporting functions at our client in Abidjan, ensuring compliance with best practices, international standards, and policies implemented by SD. This role covers a wide scope under the APA framework, including setting up client expectations, managing the client’s accounting team, implementing process improvements, scheduling visits, delivering training, and preparing financial statements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with IFRS.
  • Conduct internal audits to assess compliance, identify risks, and recommend improvements.
  • Coordinate and support external audit processes.
  • Manage statutory obligations including tax filings, payroll, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting to support decision-making.
  • Manage and mentor the client’s accounting team, ensuring high performance and accountability.
  • Deliver training sessions to strengthen staff capabilities and ensure compliance with SD standards.
  • Oversee multi-currency transactions, exchange rates, and reporting for trading, construction, production, and asset management activities.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, CMA, CFA (or equivalent) are highly preferred.
  • 7–10 years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, or auditing roles.
  • Proven expertise in trading companies, construction project accounting, production, asset management, internal controls, and financial reporting/analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with financial software systems and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of IFRS and international accounting standards.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to manage and develop teams.
  • High attention to detail, integrity, and strong time management skills.
  • Fluency in English and French is mandatory.
